18 Jan 2003, The Coach House, San Juan Capistrano, CA, USA

The Coach House show started a little rough. Apparently during the first two songs there was a problem with Jerry Goodman's gear. Steve took this opportunity to welcome us, explain the NAMM show, and apologize for running out of merchandise (his new DVD!). When they finally fixed the problem with Jerry's violin (about 10 minutes) the band took off and didn't stop. They played tunes from early albums to Mahivisnu to newer Dregs tunes. The one things I still miss is the one or two acoustic tunes Steve used to do, along with throwing in a "Name that Zeppelin" tune during the "Cruise Control" solo. But, I still think they are the hardest working band I've ever seen and I'll continue to make my yearly trek to San Juan Capistrano, or wherever, when they come to town. A note re one of the opening acts, Agent 22 - they played last year with no sound check, they appeared to have been robbed this time of play time by a 3rd act that was added at the last minute, BUT, they are a great group with a lot of talent. It's amazing what they do with one Chapman Stick and a drum kit. I look forward to seeing them again.
