I've been a big Dregs fan for about 20 years but this was the first time I saw them live. (I have seen the original Steve Morse Band a few times in the early 80's.) It was a great show and one not to be missed. My neighbor and I did the "road trip". We drove to Alexandria from Raleigh, saw the show, and drove back. We got back at 3am, and spent about 8.5 hours in the car, but it was worth it. I'd do it again tomorrow if they came back.
My neighbor had never heard of the Dregs before I mentioned them a few months back. However, being a guy that likes good music he was interested. I feared I had talked them up too much, and he would be less in awe when he saw them live. I was wrong. Even after my massive build up, he said his jaw was on the floor watching and listening to, as I put it, the five best musicians you will find on the same stage.
The show was great and everyone was into it...Steve Morse and the gang are just so darn good. We met some nice folks and had a great time. Also, I had never been to the Birchmere before. What a great place. It was run extremely well and was a great place to go and listen to music. It was nice to see a few families in the crowd and a few young kids. My kids wanted to come (9 and 7), but it was a school night. Next time, if it isn't, I will bring them.
