15 Jan 2002, Slim's, San Francisco, CA USA
On a recent business trip to the Bay Area, I had an opportunity to catch the Dregs' show at Slim's in San Francisco and I want to say that the show was excellent. But more than that, I want to say that as much as I am a dyed-in-the-wool Steve Morse fan, Dave LaRue was ABSOLUTELY 110% nuts-on that night. I've been a Steve Morse/Dregs fan since about 1980 and have seen all sorts of Dregs/Steve Morse shows (each one never failing to amaze). This night was the first night where I came away thinking "whoa, Steve really *is* with his equals". It's not as though I ever doubted that, but nevertheless, I'd always leave the show in awe of Steve. However, after leaving Slim's that night, I was not so sure that Dave LaRue hadn't edged out Steve as MVP. This was NOT a bad thing ;-) . I CAN'T WAIT for the next Dregs/Steve Morse show!
P.S. I also had a chance to see the Dregs' Boston show 11/30/2001. Both shows were *G*R*E*A*T*. This show included a tribute from Steve to George Harrison who had passed away the day before. Steve included "Something" from Abbey Road as well as "Within You, Without You" from Sgt. Peppers and a hint or two at "Day Tripper" (Well done Steve! I certainly felt moved, and it was clear to me (less than 10' from the stage) that others did as well).
