Deep Purple - "Perihelion"

The new DVD/VHS!

Deep Purple are just about to release their new DVD/video. Entitled "Perihelion", the recording captures Purple in full flight live at the Sunrise Theater, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on the 5th of June last year. Florida was a late addition to the band's US tour itinerary, and this show didn't feature Ted Nugent and Lynyrd Skynyrd on the bill. Free of time restrictions, the band had the chance to do a longer set. The video includes the show, which runs for about 1 hour and 45 minutes, while the DVD also feature 30 minutes worth of additional material, including interviews with all band members, footage from the soundcheck, as well as pictures of a band on water cruising under the bridges of Ft. Lauderdale(?).

Although heavily relying on pre-Morse era material, the playing in itself is wonderfully exciting, and Steve just delivers a blinder of a show, clearly having a real good time onstage. Purple fans have been lucky with lots of DVD's being issued over the past few years, but "Perihelion" might just be the pick of the bunch. Simply an essential purchase!
