MUSIC EXPO SET FOR SUNDAY
JIM HAYWARD, Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
South Florida's local music scene has attracted much attention recently with the major-label
signing of Miami's Nuclear Valdez and several well- received showcases. But as the scene
rises and falls and bands come and go, one thing remains constant-- the venerable
Musicians Exchange in Fort Lauderdale.
On Sunday, the 14-year-old referral service, concert club and music store will hold its ninth
annual South Florida Music & Arts Expo -- a 12-hour festival featuring national acts Steve
Morse, Leslie West and Jack Sonni; the University of Miami Concert Jazz Band; a dozen
local rock, blues, jazz, country, folk and reggae groups; plus booths of arts, crafts and music
paraphernalia.
Three indoor and outdoor stages will be set up on the Exchange grounds on Sunrise
Boulevard. Admission is $12. There will also be performances by West tonight and Morse on
Saturday night at the Exchange. Call (305) 760-7282.
Guitarist Morse has played with the Dixie Dreggs and Kansas and has a large following among
musicians. West is an influential guitarist best known for his work in the hard-rock band Mountain.
Sonni is a guitarist in the chart-topping British band Dire Straits.
The Exchange began in 1976 as a referral service for musicians, eventually expanding into a total
music and entertainment complex.
