DOUBLE FRETS
Manuel Barrueco and Steve Morse come from different musical "families," but they share a love
for their common instrument, the guitar. The two met at a Guitar Summit tour three years ago
and discovered that their stylistic differences actually blended well together. Morse,
nominated for seven Grammys over the years, was a founder of the Dixie Dregs. He gained
prominence as a member of the group Kansas before forming his own band in 1989. Two years ago
he hooked up with rock legend Deep Purple. Barrueco's range extends from classics by Bach and
Mozart to contemporary composers such as Takemitsu and jazz greats like Chick Corea and Keith
Jarrett. The Cuban-born Barrueco emigrated to the United States in 1967 and made his Carnegie
Hall debut in 1974. The two guitarists will perform separately and together in a program of
music to be announced from the stage.
