The dates for the Dream Theater / Dixie Dregs tour are beginning to take hold. All the details will be known soon, but for now, it looks like we will be at the Palace in Los Angeles on Friday and Saturday the 4th and 5th of February. That will be the weekend of the NAMM show. As a bonus, it looks like Andy West will be able to play at all of the shows. Yes, the Dregs are going to be a SIX piece band. There will be lots of surprises and wonderful music. The new California Screamin' cd on Zebra Records is set for a February 1, 2000 release......

While everyone is waiting for the rest of the site to get done, I've decided to post another MP3. This time around it's "Picture This", a classical piece from the Guitar's Practicing Musicians Volume II. Refer to the instructions below on how to download Winamp and play the MP3. Again, you will need to change the extension of the file to .mp3 from .pm3. Download the song here. (Encoded at 160 kbps, 3.26 MB).

The vote has it...
Click here for a full length MP3 of Tumeni Notes (Encoded at 160 kbps, 4.7 MB). You will need Winamp or another MP3 player to play it. The extension is .pm3 for two reasons. One is to help Netscape users and two is to avoid the MP3 search engines and such. YOU MUST change the file extension from .pm3 to .mp3 to listen to the mp3. If you don't know how, click here. You can find more information about this song and album here.

Steve has just returned from Los Angeles where the mastering of the live album has been completed. The title will for sure be "California Screamin'". Steve is also working on another project for Shrapnel Records. Steve will be writing and playing on 10 songs, each one written in the style of one of his major influences. Each song will be in the style of a different influence. Steve will also create a dialogue to go with it, naming the influences on the songs and spelling out what he was thinking.

For those of you that have voted for the MP3 to be released here on the site, that is coming soon as well.

The first peek at the new Steve Morse website went up today. Some parts are still under construction, but the wait will be worth it. The new site will offer clips of all of the recorded Steve Morse and Dixie Dregs tunes, as well as full length MP3s for download!
The webmaster invites browsers to vote for the songs you'd like to see offered as MP3s, as well as for you to send in any interesting Steve Morse or Dixie Dregs concert photos or stories.
Check back often for updates and new sections!
Thanks!

****DIXIE DREGS DATES ADDED****
************CALIFORNIA SCREAMIN TOUR*************
******WITH A FORMAT YOU WONT BELIEVE*******
The merchandise area has also been redesigned. It should provide better data and at the same time has pictures of the items for sale and music to listen to from the CDs. We do accept Visa and Mastercard, so visit us there.
The trivia question has been a big success and we will continue to offer a new one with each news update. As you can see the interactive areas are disabled for now, and this will continue to be the case until the site is revamped (we promise that this will take place quite soon). We are sure you will find the site even more enjoyable and responsive. Thank you for your patience.
If you have a comment or suggestions, you can reach us at dregs@ultranet.com.
TRIVIA QUESTION
Okay, the question is (and will remain) difficult as you are answering them much too quickly: How many days are there between T and RODs birthdays?
The first person to e-mail the correct answer to dregs@ultranet.com will receive a complimentary copy of either Stand Up, Industry Standard, or Live at Sigma Sound. Alternatively, you can choose a T-shirt, hat, guitar picks, OR passes for you and a friend to see a show and meet Steve (winners choice of show).
Paul Serotkin of New Britain, CT was the first person to correctly identify John Curtis as the first manager of the Dixie Dregs. Paul has asked for a Steve Morse Band T-shirt.
AND NOW FOR THE NEWS
Yes, three new Dixie Dregs shows have been added (!):
August 23rd in Santa Cruz at Palookaville
August 24th & 25th in San Francisco at Slims
August 26th, 27th & 28th in Los Angeles at the Roxy
The incredible tour line-up will (naturally) feature STEVE, ROD, T, DAVE LARUE, and JERRY GOODMAN. But hold on, because ALLEN SLOAN and ANDY WEST will also be playing with the band. Yes, we did say playing with the band! Sometimes, each will take his respective bass or violin chair. Other times, you'll see the whole crew jammin together.
The venues are small, so we suggest you get your tickets early (and come often). We cannot predict the next time the stars will align like this! We are extremely excited about this Dregs family reunion, and hope to see many of you there.
By the way, the California Screamin shows will be recorded! So please come and be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime event. Join the band in this historic tour, and be a part of the excitement as Zebra Records saves this amazing Bash for posterity (look for the release during late Fall)!
Steve has just returned from another round of shows in Europe with Deep Purple. There will be two more Deep Purple shows this year on the 26th and 27th of September. Deep Purple will be playing with the London Symphony Orchestra, and as an added treat, the Steve Morse Band will also have a 2-song segment as part of the show. In this segment, two of Steve's songs will be fully orchestrated and played by the band as accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra.
We are also looking to put together a short Steve Morse Band run together in the Southeast in mid-October. The goal here is to beat the arrival of Van and his expectant wife Lindy's child. Other projects on our plate include the finishing of the next Steve Morse Band trio album, as well as the lighter solo album that Steve is working on. During his time off, Steve hopes to find other musical projects that are very different and cool to do. One project that Steve will be doing for sure is an album of ten new, original tunes, each one written to reflect the style of one of his major musical influences. This should be very interesting!
T LAVITZ continues to tour with the Jazz is Dead project. This band includes JIMMY HERRING (guitars), ROD MORGENSTEIN and JEFF SIPE (drums) and ALPHONSO JOHNSON (bass). Thats right, both drummers are playing on stage at the same time. It is quite the spectacle.
DAVE LARUE is currently working with Steve on the new trio project, and at the same time is beginning to put together a bass book with bass transcriptions of some of his and your favorite Steve Morse Band tunes. When time permits, he continues to tour with PAT TRAVERS and rumor has it that he and Pat are working on a new recording project.
VAN ROMAINE still is working with the German superstar NENA. When not over in Europe with NENA and her band, he is in New York, working on a variety of session projects.
ROD MORGENSTEIN has finished a second recording with Platypus. This band also features TY TABOR, JOHN MYUNG, and DEREK SHERINIAN.
JORDAN RUDESS is in the studio as keyboardist with Dream Theater. Dream Theaters awesome newest release is almost completed, and will likely be available in October.
Well, that brings this update to a close! Again, we are sorry for the delay between updates. Bear with us a bit longer. Soon the site will undergo a major change and once again, we feel that it will become more responsive to your needs. We welcome all comments and questions; please send them to dregs@ultranet.com. Until later, thanks again for all of your support! Please keep coming back and spreading the word!
