The recording continues until the end of January. 'Dregs Of The Earth' is released in May. The Dregs tour in July opening for the Doobie Brothers. The Dregs sue their management over lack of payment from the band's last album. In December they start recording 'Unsung Heroes'.     The recording continues until February. 'Unsung Heroes' is released in March. Allen Sloan leaves and after some shows without a violinist Mark O'Connor joins. In November they start recording 'Industry Standard'.     The recording continues until January. 'Industry Standard' is released. Another show is recorded for the 'King Biscuit Flower Hour' at Rumors in Atlanta, GA on April 22. The Dregs appear on 'American Bandstand'. The Dregs break up in June. After the breakup Mark O'Connor starts a solo career and he is too busy to rejoin so the band continues as a four piece. Fiona Flanagan records a demo produced by Eddy Offord with the Dregs as the backing band. Steve wins the Overall category of Guitar Player's Annual Readers Poll and 'Industry Standard' is voted Best Guitar LP.     The Dregs break up. Steve Morse quits the music business for a while and Andy, Rod and T tour and record an album with Paul Barrère. Steve forms the Steve Morse Band in April with Jerry Peek on bass and Doug Morgan on drums. Rod Morgenstein replaces Morgan upon his return from the tour with Paul Barrère. The Steve Morse Band starts recording 'The Introduction' at Eddy Offord Studio in Atlanta, GA in September. Steve tours opening for Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia from the end of September until the end of October. At first it seemed that Al Di Meola wouldn't be able to do the tour. Pat Metheny suggests that McLaughlin and de Lucia should audition Steve Morse. When Di Meola proved to be able to do the tour after all Steve is offered to join them as their opening act. The recording of 'The Introduction' is finished at Morrisound Studio in Tampa, FL. Steve wins the Overall category of Guitar Player's Annual Readers Poll for the second time.     In February the Steve Morse Band tours in Germany for the first time. They give clinics at the Musik Messe in Frankfurt and a show is recorded and filmed for the TV program 'Ohne Filter' on February 11. Steve Morse joins David Lindley and Richard Thompson in May for a tour in Germany as 'The New Acoustic Trio'. 'The Introduction' is released. The Steve Morse Band does a second German tour sponsored by Fachblatt Musik Magazin in November. Steve wins the Overall category of Guitar Player's Annual Readers Poll for the third time.     'Stand Up' is released. The Steve Morse Band, with Terry Brock on vocals and guitar, tours opening for Rush in December. Steve wins the Overall category of Guitar Player's Annual Readers Poll for the fourth time.     The tour with Rush continues until February. The Steve Morse Band breaks up. Steve Morse performs several shows as a solo artist from March until June. Steve Morse joins Kansas and they start recording a new album. Kansas, as part of the First Airborne Rock & Roll Division, do a secret USO tour, performing on aircraft carriers in four oceans and at bases in eight countries in Asia and Europe in September and October. A highlight of the tour is one gig on a small ship in the Indian Ocean. Because it was unable to accomodate the landing of a helicopter, eight of the musicians are lowered onto the ship via cable, armed with their acoustic guitars. 'Power' is released in October. Steve wins the Overall category of Guitar Player's Annual Readers Poll for the fifth time in a row and as a result he is included in the Gallery Of The Greats. He's also voted number one in the Country category.     Kansas tours from February until July. Steve flies to Toronto, Canada in June to record with Rik Emmett and he also appears at the 'Night Of 1,000 Guitars' concert. Steve Morse appears at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 7. Steve Morse quits the music business, cuts his hair and becomes an airline pilot. In October Steve appears as a guest with the Rossington Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd on their Tribute tour.     In April the Dregs reunite to record a demo CD 'Off The Record' for Ensoniq. A Dixie Dregs tour follows from June until the end of August. Dave LaRue replaces Andy West who is unable to do the tour. 'In The Spirit Of Things' is released. During the last few days of rehearsal, Kansas singer Steve Walsh developes a severe throat ailment and the tour has to be called off.     Kansas tours with Night Ranger in January and February. The show at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA on February 14 is recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour. 'High Tension Wires' is released. Kansas tours in Germany and Switzerland with Blue Öyster Cult in March and April. Steve Morse is the opening act during this tour. Steve Morse leaves Kansas. Steve Morse tours supporting his 'High Tension Wires' album with a new Steve Morse Band with Dave LaRue on bass and Van Romaine on drums. 'High Tension Wires' is voted Best Guitar LP in Guitar Player's Annual Readers Poll.
