The Steve Morse Band tours in February.
Deep Purple tour in South America in late February and March. During the first show of the tour
in Santiago, Chile, the sound control tower collapses. The infamous 'spitting accident'
occurs at this show as well.
Another Steve Morse Band tour follows in April.
Dregs Records releases 'The Great Spectacular' on CD in April. The CD's are signed by all the
original members. 'Stand Up', like 'The Great Spectacular' released on CD for the first time,
and 'Industry Standard' follow a few weeks later.
Deep Purple have a writing session in Orlando, FL in May and June without Jon Lord who is
finishing a solo album.
'Live At The Olympia ‘96' is released in June.
Steve records 'It Came Upon A Midnight Clear' for the Windham Hill Christmas album 'The Carols
Of Christmas II'.
Deep Purple perform shows in Germany, Lebanon and Switzerland in July and Canada in August.
Steve records 'Joy To The World' for the Epic Christmas album 'Merry Axemas'.
Deep Purple have a recording session in September and October.
'King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents: Dixie Dregs' is released in September.
G3 play at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL on October 15 and Steve Morse joins them for the
encore.
Another Deep Purple recording session follows in November and December.
In December Deep Purple do a House of Blues tour.
